About editorhouse

editorhouse was launched in in 2006. I‘ve been editing, however, for about 15 years.

I started editing as an undergrad back in the early '90s. On the first day of my first editing course, Professor Bob informed the class that “Good editors know a little bit about a lot of things."

I was immediately intrigued.

That's me! I thought. I'm an avid reader and a trivia buff, curious about wide-ranging topics. Toss in my love of language and writing, along with my keen eye for grammar, spelling, and punctuation...I knew what I wanted to do for a living. So I concentrated on writing and editing in my studies and served on the student paper.

I got a dream job right out of college: editing a magazine for a national nonprofit. After five years of magazine editing, I decided to follow more dreams. I moved to the North Carolina coast, got a graduate degree, and added college writing instructor to my resume.

After I began teaching writers in 2001, though, I continued to write and edit on the side, freelancing for publishers as well as authors. Over the years, I’ve worked directly with academics, fiction writers, memoirists, and small business owners. The subject matter has ranged from popular to technical, academic to entertaining. I’ve worked on 20-page business plans, 200-page dissertations, 500-page novels, and everything in between.

I have a bachelor’s in English with a concentration in writing and editing and a minor in international studies. My master’s is in English with a concentration in critical literacy. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. Over the past 18 years, I have been involved in literacy causes: My work has included tutoring adult emerging readers and speakers of other languages, as well as editing, designing, and writing for literacy council newsletters.

I’m still intrigued by editing, and I’ve added to my definition of a good editor: Good editors need to know a little bit about a lot of things... but they must be experts on how to make writing better for the audience. I’m passionate about helping writers make their writing stronger, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with a variety of interesting texts through my business, editorhouse.

Now that you know a little about me, how can I be of service?
